Crane boom drops in Texas
A crane boom came down alongside an interstate highway on Tuesday night near Dallas airport in Texas. The job involves construction of an overpass for state Highway 161 at I-20.

The boom came down on the overpass and the beam narrowly missed the highway
The crane, a Manitowoc 14000 was lifting a large concrete beam at the time, when the boom appears to have buckled. Fortunately if came to rest on the overpass (Flyover) while the load landed just inside the concrete barriers with I-20 and no one was injured in the incident. There is no indication at this point of what might have caused the boom to collapse.

The back mast was twisted
I think everyone should look closely at the angle of the tracks. The crane is no where near level. The pictures indicate that no one on the job was paying attention to set up. I hope we can all learn from such a mistake. Thank God no one was hurt or killed...
OLDBEAR
The beam hit the boom. The operator did not know he had not cleared the safety cable on the deck. He swung (never knowing he was hung up) while the tagline men held the free end until they could not hold no longer. When they (tagline men) let go, he then realized what was about to happen. He then reversed the direction of rotation. Thank God no one was killed.
