First New Tadano for Coussens
UK crane and access rental company Coussens of Bexhill has taken delivery of its first new Tadano Faun, a 60 tonne truck-mounted HK 60.
The crane is mounted on a conventional commercial truck, with Coussens choosing to go with a four axle chassis, in order to allow it to carry more counterweight while keeping axle weights relatively low to meet STGO Category B.

The truck chosen is a Volvo FM which the company already has in its transport fleet, fitted with a 440HP engine, up-rated chassis and the automatic Volvo I-shift transmission. The crane itself boasts a 40.2 metre full power boom and 15.8 metre bi-fold swingaway extension giving a total under the hook height of almost 58 metres.
“The fact the HK series run on a conventional truck gives the customer the option of range of trucks they are familiar with, or have good backup nearby. This concept also keeps the crane totally independent of the truck, with all crane functionality powered by its own four cylinder Mercedes engine. This helps to keep fuel consumption and costs down and leaves the big engine at the front to concentrate on the road," said Paul Goodall of Tadano distributor UK Cranes.

Paul and Margaret Coussens added: “We have purchased this crane to give us a different option in our crane hire fleet. With the requirement to travel further afield to satisfy our customers the low running and maintenance costs of this machine will be of great benefit. We have had a good experience with the Tadano Faun ATF 80-4 that we bought second-hand, and this helped with our decision to choose Tadano Faun for this new machine.”
“This new crane will give us more flexibility and also signals our intention to continue to invest in our fleet to give our customers the best possible service.”
Coussens of Bexhill was founded in 1937 by the grandfather of the current owners to offer a local lift and shift service in East Sussex. It has grown over the years into a leading crane rental and contract lifting company, serving the entire South and South East of England through four depots in East Sussex, West Sussex and Kent. Services have expanded to include powered access rental, heavy haulage, machinery and plant installation.
