Another tree and more soft ground
A truck crane overturned onto a house yesterday in the town of Eunice, Louisiana while lifting the limbs of a tree being removed from the back of the property.
The four axle Terex truck crane owned by CDH Crane was set up with its outriggers on soft ground. We understand that it had almost completed the job when the two outriggers facing the work sank completely into the soft causing the crane to overturn and the boom to come crashing down on to the garage of the home. Outrigger mats can be seen leaning against the recovered crane - whether they were used or not we do not know.

A lady was in residence in the house, but was not hurt at all in the incident nor was the crane operator.
Two recovery cranes were called in and managed to help the overturned crane retract its boom and slew back into the transport position.

A video on the local news station clearly shows the machine to be a 75 ton T775, not a 3 axle 40 ton machine. Some evidence of cribbing in the video along with shots of the unbelievable muck underneath- holes appear 3-4 feet deep (or more) under vertical jacks.
Aye, best not to comment on our friends over the pond losing another crane to soft ground and trees. Instead a bit of Monty Ptyhon from the Holy Grail - Swamp Castle Scene "Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it anyway, and it sank into the swamp, so I built another one and that sank into the swamp too, so I built another one and that burned down, fell over and sank into the swamp...."

note that the full compliment of counterweight is not installed on the upperworks. terex 40t capacity much reduced in this config, especially with long boom and extended radius.

They won't learn till they admit there is a problem, but at the moment there excuse is they run lots of cranes in America so are allowed more accident.
