A man has sustained serious injuries after the boom of a ship crane collapsed on a logging ship at the Port of Tauranga, New Zealand this morning.

A man has sustained serious injuries after the boom of a ship crane collapsed


The 42 year old Filipino man was working on-board the Nordic Visby when the boom of the crane collapsed. After being struck by the wire ropes, he was taken to a hospital with substantial injuries and lacerations to his upper body. It is said his condition is still serious.

A closer look at the crane


The Maritime New Zealand is planning to launch an investigation later today.

UPDATE
The boom was removed by three cranes belonging to local rental company McLeod Cranes on Saturday May 18th. The injured man is also out of danger and recovering in hospital. Click here to see the recovery report
