First Snorkels with Sanctuary Zone
The first Snorkel booms fitted with the Sanctuary Zone anti entrapment bars are now working in Qatar.
Snorkel distributor Q-FAB won an order for nine booms for the Nakilat Damen Shipyard for building luxury yachts. The order included 46ft T46JRT, T80 and T120 46, 80 and 120ft telescopic booms, as well as an A46JRT 46ft articulated boom.

Q-FAB is the first Snorkel distributor to request Sanctuary Zone - the steel frame system developed by AFI, that helps protect the machine operator from being crushed between the platform and an overhead obstacle - on behalf of its customers.
Roshan Mathew, senior sales manager for Q-FAB, said: “Nakilat is committed to the highest levels of site and worker safety. Thanks to Snorkel’s help to integrate and approve Sanctuary Zone for its boom lifts, we were able to win a substantial order with one of Qatar’s most prestigious companies.”
Mick Wright, director of Snorkel Middle East, added: “Q-FAB works hard to remain at the forefront of safe and efficient working at height. So it was no surprise that it was the first Snorkel distributor to ask us to look into the compatibility of overhead crush protection. The work we carried out at Q-FAB’s request means that other distributors can now support their customers’ requirements for this type of additional safety system.”
The more formal name of Nakilat is Qatar Gas Transport Company - a Qatari-owned marine company which provides transportation links in the state of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain as well as overseeing the activities of the country’s shipyard and provides additional services to vessels in Qatari waters.
