Electronic safety systems manufacturer Brigade Electronics launched four new safety devices, which it unveiled at Bauma, adding to its current range of vehicle camera systems, sensors and warning alarms for the lifting industry.
The new additions include the ‘AI Box’ which converts standard cameras into human detection systems without requiring replacement. The two channel unit connects between existing cameras and monitors, providing both visual and audio warnings when a person is detected.

The Backsense radar system offering detection up to 60 metres away with a 140 degree horizontal detection angle. The sensor can link up to eight units together and communicates through CAN Gateway, making it suitable for harsh construction environments.
A new Thumbs-up display is designed for the safety of those working on the ground, it features an anti-glare screen with frosted technology to prevent sun reflection. It only activates when the machine's handbrake is engaged or hydraulics are locked, providing visual confirmation when it's safe to approach.
Finally, Brigade has announced a partnership with Topcon to integrate its AI camera with Topcon's Opus B6 10 inch display monitor. The system offers 1080P high-definition imaging to provide operators or drivers with a clear view of pedestrians, along with objects of people working in blind spot areas.

Based in Kent, southern England, Brigade Electronics was founded in 1976 by Chris Hanson-Abbott after he came across reversing alarms installed on vehicles in Japan. The company introduced the first reversing alarm to the UK market at the 1976 Commercial Vehicle Show, though initial reception was challenging with the Department for Transport initially declaring such alarms illegal.
Despite early setbacks, the company achieved its first sale to a UK bus company two years later. Brigade has since continued developing technology in the lifting and construction market expanding from reversing alarms to a range of safety systems including cameras, radar detection, and AI-based technology.
