Balfour Beatty scam alert

One of our readers - and winner of our front cover competition, congratulations Harry! - has told us of another scam email circulating within the lifting and access industry. The fraudulent message impersonates major UK based contractor Balfour Beatty.

The suspicious email - which has been confirmed by Balfour Beatty as a scam - claims to be from Balfour Beatty's procurement team, inviting suppliers to register as vendors for ‘upcoming projects and services’ and requests them send their profiles to a fake email address: [email protected] - spot the missing T.

This follows similar incidents in March, when Haulotte UK fell victim to sophisticated fraud by someone posing as ‘Diana Rossenga’ working for John Sisk & Son. That incident went on to involve fraudulent documentation and equipment theft.

High value equipment suppliers in particular are reminded to implement strong verification procedures when faced by new requests to supply, no matter how well known and prestigious the company inquiring, and to report suspicious communications to the relevant authorities. Please get in touch if you have received a fraudulent email and we’ll do our best to alert others to the scam.
