Who knows the truth?

A recently uploaded video is circulating claiming to show a crawler crane dropping a heavy load onto a bus.

The story goes that some young skateboarders were filming each other in an Amsterdam park when the incident occurred behind them.

A film stunt?

We believe that it is a stunt that the two were well aware was going to happen. And we are not sure that it is even in Amsterdam – could it be Belgium rather than Holland? It could well have been a carried out for a film? Click here to see the video

The actual dropping of the poorly rigged load onto the bus looks real enough, but staged. It was posted recently and was beginning to 'go viral' but something does not ring true.

Let us know if you have the full story, especially if it was your crane

UPDATE

See comments below it was stage as part of some sort of safety film by a Dutch Union. Many thanks for those who contributed to this mystery.

Video is a part of a campaign in The Netherlands from the local union regarding accidents on construction sites.

It is filmed in Amsterdam with a bus from "De Lijn" a Belgium busoperator

Almost certainly computer generated effects. There's absolutely no movement in the pendants or the crane when the load hits. The block is bouncing up and down and that can't happen without boom movement. Hoist ropes aren't made of elastic!

Just watch any crane that is pile driving (or doing clam-shell work), the boom and especially the pendants show a lot of movement.

Looks a tad staged to me based on 3 reasons :

1 Block falls on free fall but hook block is stopped from falling before it impacts the bus - suggesting the drop was a controlled one rather than a catastrophic failure of the hoist winch.

2 Angle at which the concrete block is slung at - who would lift a block at an angle like that ?

3 The complete failure of the skate boarder to come up with some form of "Radical Dude !" reaction to the event, he just picks up his board and walks over toward the incident with no sign of the slightest element of suprise.

Looks an expensive stunt but not a credible accident !
