Stephan ‘Steve’ Williams 1971-2018

We have received the sad news that Steve Williams, joint managing director and co- owner of UK based Road Rail Cranes passed away on Friday, after having collapsed earlier in the week, with a brain haemorrhage. He was only 47.

Williams co-founded Road Rail Cranes in 2013 with colleagues, Ian Cross and Derek Hook in 2013. He is credited with the original idea of converting city cranes into road/rail vehicles and offering them along with other specialist road rail equipment and regular cranes for rental and contract lifting.

He began his crane career with Bryn Thomas Crane Hire in 1997, becoming a technical lift planner, training instructor and safety manger in his seven years with the company. His introduction to the rail industry came with a move to Dean & Dyball’s Rail division as a site agent, followed by a spell with Lundy Projects before joining AEMC as lead safety advisor.

The news has come as a great shock to the many people that knew him and a brief comment from one customer sums up what many are feeling today. “Gutted, a lovely guy.”

He was known for his big smile and dry sense of humour and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
