Peter Douglas leaves Nationwide

Peter Douglas the operations director of the UK division of Loxam Access - Nationwide Platforms – is to leave the business at the end of the year.

He joined the company in 1992 when Nationwide Access - as was then - acquired Access Rentals, teaming up with Mike Evans in 1995 to set up the Skylift division for Nationwide. The division was merged with the self propelled business in 2004, and then re-established as a separate division in late 2005, with Douglas leading the relaunch of the business, becoming general manager of the division in 2006. In 2008 he became Northern region manager for the merged Nationwide Platform Company business – which became Nationwide Platforms.

He has also served as commercial director and then managing director of Nationwide Platforms between 2009 and 2011, moving to his current position in 2011.

Peter Douglas

Loxam Access chief executive Don Kenny said: "Peter is one of our longest serving employees, having been with us for more than 26 years, and is an integral part of the Nationwide Platforms success story. He leaves us on wholly amicable terms. I would like to thank Peter for his loyal and dedicated service, and I wish him well in his future endeavours."

The brief statement also added: “An interim structure will be implemented from 1 January 2019 to handle Peter’s responsibilities.”

Vertikal Comment

Peter Douglas has seen a lot of changes over the years as senior managers came and went, not all of them the brightest or most commercially savvy pebbles on the beach and regular reorganisations were implemented and then changed or reversed. While other managers moved on as regimes came and went Douglas remained steadfastly on board, focusing on his role within the organisation at the time. 26 years however, is a long time to be with one company by anyone’s standards, it will be interesting to see what he does next.

Peter, congratulations on your career and achieve Mtns. There is a need to document the next book of Going Up in The World by Denis Ashworth. I have read my copy twice and am about to go a 3rd round. The access industry has a solid position in developed countries of the world and this deserves documentation in book form.

Dear Peter: your contribution to the safety side of the access industry is immeasurable. Lending us your subject matter expertise while we developed our scissor lift simulator product made it so much better. Mostly, its been your friendship and generosity of spirit that we will remember (OK your're not dead so I will ease up). We know you will have LOTS of opportunity in the future and we are excited to see where it takes you. Best of luck and look forward to keeping in touch! Jim

Like many many others I wish Peter every success with his next challenge, hopefully in our industry. Having said that, and assuming he is interested, I strongly encourage the IPAF board of directors to install him as CEO with immediate effect. Way to go!
