New cab for Grove ATs

Grove three axle All Terrain cranes are getting an all new carrier cab, dubbed the Cab2020.

The redesign has been prompted by new ECE R29-3 international commercial vehicle crash test requirements which are being applied in Europe in the new year. In addition to redesigning for the new regulations, the company has taken the opportunity to improve comfort and ergonomics while using the available internal space more efficiently. The cab is now available on the 50 tonne Grove GMK3050-3, and 60 tonne GMK3060-2 and GMK3060L-1.

The internal redesign of the new cab began with an extensive survey of existing users regarding their personal requirements for a driver’s cab, including their priorities and preferences. The results of this study led to a prototype of the cab, which was displayed at the Manitowoc stand at bauma last year.

The cab design is also closer to that of the larger Grove All Terrain models with a new external look. The CCS (Crane Control System) display is positioned slightly higher to ensure it is within the operator’s sight and reach, while buttons and dial locations are all strategically positioned to ensure that the crane can be handled easily and intuitively. The interior also uses premium quality surfaces and material that improve the look and feel.

Finally before finalising the design, the Cab2020 went through a series of tests at the product verification centre (PVC) in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, to ensure a superior driving experience.

Vice president product management Andreas Cremer said: “It was important for us to retain what was deemed as perfect and tried and tested by crane operators. But by adding the extra bits and pieces, we have achieved real improvements in design and function, which resulted in our new Cab2020 becoming the new carrier cab for the smaller range of our Grove all-terrain cranes.”

Thanks for the feedback and you are right, it actually is not too much to ask for. The photos are showing the exhibition prototype and the final cab will feature armrests which is one of the numerous improvements done based on the feedback we gathered within this project.

Would armrests on the seats be too much to ask for?
