The crane was set up OK and the ground held firm in spite of the absence of mats.

It is clear from the photos - and confirmed by the emergency services - that the overturn was caused by a simple overload, taking too many roof trusses too far out for the size of the National Crane, owned and operated by Charles Hunter Crane Service.

OSHA has confirmed that it is investigating the incident.

The new build site is one of several being developed by Ryan Homes in the greater Pittsburgh area, the Meritage Group is listed as the general contractor.
