£2,500 for Dementia UK

Employees of UK rental company Horizon Platforms have completed the Equinox 24 hour run, during which they raised over £2,500 for Dementia UK.

Two teams of six runners from the Wakefield and Warrington branches completed 33 laps of a 10 kilometre course last Saturday and Sunday. The team ran around 205 miles in a relay throughout the day and night, beating their initial £500 target by a wide margin.

Dementia UK was chosen as the company's partner charity this year as many members of the team have family and friends who have been affected by the neurological disorder, which impacts memory, cognitive ability and communication skills. The charity offers specialist one to one support and expert advice for people living with dementia through their Admiral Nurses. They work hand in hand with families, helping them cope with the day to day challenges of the condition.

Managing director Ben Hirst took part in the run alongside colleagues Matt Fray, Jack Archer, Emily Duggan, Leah Hartley and Ian Moorhouse. A second team of six runners included Kelly Burgess, Ben Lunt, Jake Shelbourne, Todor Ilinov, James Kynaston and Amy Harrison.

Hirst said: “Many of us have first-hand experience of the compassionate care and support offered by the Admiral Nurses and we wanted to do our bit to help ensure their great work continues for years to come. Seeing a loved one slowly drift away can be agonising, and with the number of dementia sufferers on the increase in the UK, it’s vital that we do what we can to help.”

“I’m incredibly proud of our teams in meeting such a difficult challenge, with typical tenacity and grit. It’s not something any of us have taken lightly and we’re delighted to have been able to give so much to such a valuable charity. Our feet are sore but our spirits remain high, so if you can help by sponsoring our efforts, we’d be really grateful.”
