Alessandro Fagioli 1938-2020

We have received the sad news that Alessandro Fagioli, president of Italian heavy lift and transport Fagioli passed away yesterday, he was 81.

In 1950 Fagioli’s family moved from Traversetolo - due south from Parma - to Montecchio north of Rome. The following year his father purchased a Dodge truck and started his own transport business. In the beginning he carried anything from lumber, livestock and food. Then in 1955 he began moving canned goods for a local company. By 1960 the Fagioli company owned six trucks and was purchasing two new ones every year. A significant step occurred in the early 1960s with the purchase of the first articulated/semi-trailers. One of the first heavy transport jobs for the company involved moving a boiler and was executed by Alessandro Fagioli, while a prestigious job involved the transport of an historical bronze bell in 1965, which brought publicity and a certain prestige.

Continuous investment in the latest equipment increased the company’s heavy transport activity, and built a strong reputation, initially in central Italy and later on in the north, with the opening of offices in Milan and Turin. 'Technology moves the world' became Alessandro Fagioli’s motto, as he understood the importance of advanced engineering solutions to move increasingly heavy modules.

Recent examples include the transport, lifting and installation of offshore platform sections weighing up to 44,000 tonnes in Canada, and a key role in re-floating and salvage of the Concordia wreck. He was also involved in the installation of 12,000 tonne caissons and barriers for the MO.SE project in Venice.

Alessandro Fagioli was also a proud recipient of the Ordine al Merito del Lavoro (the order for merit for work) awarded to those who have been singularly meritorious in agriculture, industry and commerce, with the title of ‘il Cavaliere del Lavoro' - essentially a knighthood.

He is succeeded by his son Giovanni Fagioli.
