Kobelco crane sales dip

Kobe Steel, owner of Kobelco Construction Machinery which manufactures Kobelco crawler cranes, has published its full year results for the year ending March 2020.

The construction division saw total revenues decline 6.5 percent to ¥360.8 billion ($3.4 billion), largely due to lower excavator exports with a drop in demand from Southeast Asia, partly offset by higher sales in Japan and China.

Sadly, the company no longer breaks out crane sales, although it does say “unit sales of crawler cranes decreased year on year as competition from overseas manufacturers intensified mainly in Southeast Asia, despite an increase in Japan backed by steady demand.”

Ordinary profit from the division was reduced by more than 70 percent to ¥7.53 billion ($70.3 million).
