Liebherr unveils new 150 tonner

Liebherr has unveiled the new 150 tonne LTM 1150-5.3 as successor to its highly popular 130 tonne LTM 1130-5.1 of which more than 1,500 units have been built since its launch.

The new crane is one of eight five axle Liebherr All Terrains ranging from the 95 tonne LTM 1095-5.1 to the 250 tonne LTM 1250-5.1, and fits between the 110 tonne LTM 1110-5.1 and 180 tonne LTM 1160-5.2.

The LTM 1150-5.3 features a 66 metre seven section main boom - six metres more than the crane it replaces - with a load chart said to be around 15 percent better on average. A hydraulic luffing 10.8 to 19 metre bi-fold swingaway extension offsets by up to 40 degrees and can be extended with a seven metre insert to provide a maximum tip height of almost 95 metres and a maximum radius of 72 metres. A 2.9 metre erection jib and a runner is also available. The crane can manage 12 tonnes on a 60 metre boom or nine tonnes when fully extended to 66 metres at a radius of up to 13 metres. VarioBase automatically variable outrigger set up is standard.

The LTM 1150-5.3 can handle 9.1 tonnes on full boom at a radius of up to 12 metres

The single engine crane can travel with up to nine tonnes of its 45 tonne maximum counterweight within 12 tonne axle load limits, without the extension or 6.2 tonnes with full extension on board. Alternatively it can meet 10 tonne axle loads without counterweight, or travel with 29 tonnes of counterweight, full extension and hook blocks where 16.5 tonne axle loads are permitted.

Power comes from a six cylinder Liebherr Stage V diesel located in the chassis, and includes Liebherr’s ECOdrive and ECOmode features, which are said to further reduce fuel consumption, noise and emissions. It can also be easily configured for Tier IV and Stage IIIA for the USA and other markets. The power unit is matched to a ZF-TraXon transmission which includes a ‘Hillstart’ feature for smooth pull away on steep slopes. The overall width is 2.75 metres, and overall length 14.48 metres.

Sales director Christoph Kleiner said: “A flexible all-rounder, the LTM 1150-5.3 will enhance any crane fleet like a jewel. It has the longest boom in this crane class at 66 metres and can compete with crane models in the 200 tonne lifting capacity class. It delivers outstanding lifting capacities when fully raised and at large radii. And it is immediately ready for use once it reaches the site. This is because the new 150 tonne crane carries nine tonnes of a ballast with a gross weight of 60 tonnes. That means it can complete lots of jobs without requiring additional ballast transport vehicles. That saves time and money and makes the crane even more valuable to crane contractors – hence our slogan: “The jewel for your crane fleet”.

The new crane also features a completely new range of hook blocks to satisfy these that are both lighter, but also adjustable for different configurations and loads. For example, a three sheave hook block, which previously weighed 700kg, is just 500kg however it can be upgraded to 700kg quickly and easily when necessary. The new system is available for hook blocks with one to seven sheaves and can be used with both 19 and 21mm ropes.

“Our engineers have produced a simple, but brilliant design as it means that operators can react even more flexibly to every job,” adds Kleiner.
