Crawler drops jib

A crawler crane jib collapsed on Tuesday on a job site in Syracuse, New York.

The crane, a Kobelco crawler - possibly a CKE2500? - was working on a construction site of a new building for the Upstate University Hospital and was reported to have been in the process of unloading a small bundle of steel from a truck when the crane’s jib came down. Thankfully no one was injured in the incident and property damage was apparently limited to the crane.

A spokesperson for the project’s client said that all of the crane’s inspections were in order and up to date and confirmed that a team was investigating the incident. But it looks as though the jib luffing cable may have failed, although something with the jib tip appears to have failed badly as well.
