Crane takes out power

A man was seriously injured yesterday when the boom nose of a boom truck came into contact with high tension overhead power lines in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The man was working on the ground and may well have been the crane operator. The crane, a 23.5 ton Terex Stinger, was supplied by local company Cooper Crane which said it was being used to install a new fan on the roof of a pizzeria building, when the operator took the boom too close to the line causing the power to cut out resulting in an explosion which caused debris which struck surrounding vehicles. Florida Power & Light is investigating the incident.
