Second Böcker for Bernard Hunter

Scottish rental company Bernard Hunter Mobile Cranes has taken delivery of a 12 tonne Böcker AK 52 aluminium truck crane.

Mounted on a four axle Mercedes-Benz Arocs Tridem chassis, the AK 52 features a four section main boom plus a three section luffing jib for a 52 metre tip height. It has a maximum radius of 45 metres and can take three tonne out to a 17 metre radius with a height of 31 metres.

Features include a Euro 6 engine, wireless remote controls, automatic levelling and fully variable outrigger set up and monitoring. It has also been supplied with the company’s PK 350-D platform basket attachment which offers a 40 metre working height, a maximum outreach of 33 metres and a maximum platform capacity of 350kg. The AK 52 was also purchased along with a 250kg Bocker Junior trailer mounted furniture lift and joins a four tonne AK 42 in the company’s fleet.

Bernard Hunter's new Böcker AK 52 joins a AK 42 in its fleet

Managing director Mark Rafferty, said: “Our original Böcker truck crane brought a new dimension to our business. We’ve always generalised our lorry mounted cranes as Hiabs. These complement our fleet of All Terrain Liebherrs and Spierings mobile tower cranes. The Böckers create a brand-new group in-between the Hiabs and All Terrains, bringing previously unattainable levels of operational flexibility, along with quicker set up and dismantling times.”

The company has also added a Bocker Junior trailer mounted furniture lift to its fleet

“Comparing the new Böcker AK 52 to our existing AK 42 is interesting. We can now lift 12 tonnes as opposed to four and the reach has increased from 46 to 52 metres. We’re also now able to use a new three man basket, instead of the two man unit we’ve been used to previously. Our new Böcker-Junior adds yet another string to our bow, with its ability for easy transport and manhandling into extremely restricted working areas.”

Established in 1946, Bernard Hunter runs a fleet of All Terrain, mobile tower, crawler, truck and spider cranes from its location in Edinburgh.
