70t Liebherr for Maier

Germany crane rental company Kran-Maier has taken delivery of a 70 tonne Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 All Terrain crane.

Replacing an aging 60 tonne crane in its fleet, the four axle LTM 1070-4.2 has a 50 metre main boom and a 9.5 to 16 metre bi-fold swingaway extension. Features include a Stage V engine, radio remote controls and Liebherr’s ECOmode and VarioBase outrigger set up systems. The crane went straight out on the installation of high voltage pylons for railway company Deutsche Bahn between Buch and Eching.

Managing director Susanne Maier, said: “The LTM 1070-4.2 is not only a crane that has proven itself over many years, but is also at the cutting edge of crane technology. For example, it already complies with the new Stage V emissions directive and the currently attached counterweight is automatically detected. We also ordered the VarioBase variable outrigger base and the radio remote control. It was also important for us that the delivery time of the crane was acceptable.”

Kran Maier was established by Lorenz Maier in 1938 as a truck repair workshop. In 1945 he built a recovery crane using a second hand Bussing bus chassis, and purchased his first crane - from Wilhag Kran - in 1964. The third generation managed company now runs 10 cranes, topped by a 250 tonne LTM 1250-5.1 All Terrain, from its location in Altheim, outside of Landshut, Bavaria.
