Hybrid delivery vehicle

UK contractor Oliver Connell & Sons has taken delivery of a 23.1 tonne/metre Palfinger PK 24.001 SLD 5 loader crane mounted on the latest Scania Hybrid 6x2 chassis.

The PK 24.001 offers a maximum capacity of 6.2 tonnes and can handle 1,180kg at a radius of 14.8 metres and take 2,350kg to a height just over 18 metres. Features include Palfinger’s Paltronic overload protection system and radio remote control with LED display screen.

Oliver Connell claims the Scania Hybrid chassis is one of the first of its kind in the UK, combining a diesel engine with a 95kWh battery pack to offer up to 60km of range on a single charge. It also uses regenerative charging and can be charged to 80 percent in just 35 minutes. The chassis has been specified with a L-series low cab in line with Transport of London (TfL) direct vision standard compliance and was supplied with a Sterling beavertail body with galvanised ‘cheesewedge’ fold ramps.

David Sheath, HSE director at Oliver Connell, said: “At Oliver Connell & Sons we are continuously recycling our vehicles and equipment to keep up with both the demands of our clients and the environment we operate in. We are very proud of our efforts making honourable and responsible gains with our fleet, but the journey does not stop here.”

Grant Owen of Sterling GP added: "Oliver Connell has specified all aspects of this vehicle to the highest standard and the body is no exception. 40 pairs of five tonne rated lashing rings and container twist locks provide securing points for all kinds of loads. Chain racks on the headboard, recessed chain wells below the headboard and two large toolboxes provide plenty of storage for lashing chains, straps and lift chains. This is the fourth body we have built for Oliver Connell and we look forward to working with them for many years to come."

Based in Perivale, London, Oliver Connell & Sons specialises in reinforced concrete frame construction. The company also has a fleet of construction and concrete equipment and a fleet of articulated and fixed Hiab delivery vehicles that has gained ‘Gold’ status under London’s Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).
