Successful Karlsruhe debut for Platformers

Germany's Platformers' Days took place last Friday and Saturday with around 350 machines on display. Held this year in Karlsruhe, it was the first time the show had not at its original location in Hohenroda.

New product launches included Skyjack with its new 64ft SJ9664 RT Rough Terrain scissor, CTE and its 24 metre MP 24 C platform, Genie’s new S-80 J and S-80 J Trax and Haulotte’s new Sigma articulated boom lift and Pulseo scissor lifts. JLG showed its all electric DaVinci scissor lifts, Liebherr had its new MK 73-3.1 mobile self-erecting tower crane, Magni had several new telehandlers as well as Magni badged Dingli electric platform, while other exhibitors included Ahern/Snorkel, Manitou, Merlo, JCB, Niftylift, Sinoboom, Teupen and Nagano, to mention but a few.

The event has morphed from a very casual almost rural event to a slicker, more structured one held at a dedicated exhibition centre with inside and outside areas. The organisers succeeded in avoiding queues, and crowds, while masks were required in the halls and when queuing for food. Anyone who forgot was politely asked to do so by the staff, while outside meetings were conducted with visible smiles.

The layout of the event helped ensured that visitor flow was evenly dispersed, although giving little indication of how many visitors were on site at any given time. While Friday got off to a lively start, the flow of visitors died down considerably on Saturday.

One clear message was that the people were very happy indeed that real events were back, and that people could finally meet again in true life and colour. Many products on display were making their show debuts, including cranes, platforms and telehandlers.

The next event will be held on the 8th and 9th September 2023, back in Karlsruhe. Most visitors and exhibitors were very satisfied with the new location, although some things did not go quite as smoothly as hoped, including enough hotel rooms near the fairground and a poorly organised shuttle service.
