Second gen LTM 1110

Liebherr has launched the second generation of its 110 tonne LTM 1110 All Terrain crane.

Originally launched at bauma 2019, the five axle LTM 1110 has a seven section, 60 metre main boom topped by a 10.8 to 19 metre bi-fold lattice swingaway extension. It features the company’s VarioBase Plus technology and can be configured for travel with axle loads of 10, 12 or 16 tonnes. The second generation LTM 1110-5.2 now features the company’s latest LICCON3 crane control system, the latest generation chassis cab and an ‘almost zero wear’ ZF TraXon DynamicPerform transmission and oil-cooled multi-disk clutch.

Liebherr’s second generation LTM 1110-5.2 All Terrain crane

The LICCON3 control system features a new software package and programming language as well as a faster databus, more storage space and improved computing power. In addition, LICCON3 cranes will be prepared for telemetry and fleet management systems as standard, with relevant data available via the MyLiebherr customer portal in the near future.

The third generation LICCON3 control system

Nikolaus Münch, head of the control system department at Liebherr, said: “It was important to us that crane operators, who are familiar with Liebherr cranes, would be able to get used to the new control system quickly and easily. At the same time, we must be future proof as the progress currently being made in microelectronics is immense. Complex applications, such as VarioBase, which require a great deal of performance data, can now be developed more frequently in the future. The current LICCON2 control system is reaching the limits of its capacity.”

A prototype of the LTM 1110’s new cab was originally unveiled with the LTM 1110-5.1 at bauma 2019. Following customer feedback, it features a new multifunction steering wheel, side roller blind on the driver’s door, improved instruments and modules as well as new displays. It also features an automatic heating and climate control system in both the driver’s and operator’s cabs, with a heating system that automatically adjusts depending on strength of sunlight detected.

Additional options include central locking with remote key, a cool box and tyre pressure monitoring systems. A new lighting system sees the inclusion of LEDs for the crane cabs, the superstructure, the rear of the vehicle, the front headlights and the telescopic boom and lattice jibs.

The LTM 1110-5.2 features the latest Liebherr carrier cab

Liebherr says that it will install the new ZF TraXon DynamicPerform transmission in all of its five axle All Terrain cranes on a step by step basis, while its cranes with six or more axles will continue to use the ZF 12-speed TraXon Torque with starting converter.

A ZF TraXon DynamicPerform and oil-cooled multi-disk clutch

Josef Schick, head of the testing department at Liebherr, said: “As a result of the close collaboration with ZF and a very intensive phase of testing, the new transmission is now ready for widespread adoption. The cooling performance of the DynamicPerform clutch module has been significantly increased yet again by means of improvements to various hardware components. Overall we can safely say that there is a world of difference between a dry clutch and the new wet starting clutch!”
