Felbermayr Germany expands with Kulawik

Austrian crane and access rental group Felbermayr has announced a major expansion of its access rental operation in Germany and has recruited Stephan Kulawik to head it up.

The group already operates across 19 European countries, but so far has only offered limited aerial work platform rental in Germany from two locations in the eastern part of the country - Bautzen and Dresden. This is set to change with Kulawik’s appointment as director of access rental Germany. He plans to expand the Felbermayr access business in Germany from an existing Felbermayr heavy crane and transport location in Krefeld, north west of Düsseldorf.

Kulawik, 53, joins the company following the expiry of his formal departure from Kiloutou at the end of last year. He has around 30 years experience in the powered access market, having started with Wumag in the 1990s, becoming head of international sales in 2002. He remained with the business when it was acquired by Palfinger in 2008 and in 2012 was appointed as chief executive of Palfinger Platforms, departing in 2015 to join Danish group BMS as director of sales. He made the move to Kiloutou in 2017, and as managing director co-ordinated the rapid expansion of the group’s German business, mostly through acquisitions.

He will be supported in his efforts by Thorsten Tyrann, who also joins the business from Kiloutou Germany where he was sales manager. He has been appointed sales manager - aerial work platforms - Germany. He has a strong background in powered access having spent the first 25 years of his career with Gardemann, starting as a salesman in 1992 and moving up through the company via a number of regional sales management roles to become head of strategic purchasing and real estate. He left in 2016 to join access rental company Peter Cramer for a year and then tried his hand in the property market for a few months before joining Kiloutou in 2018.

Wolfgang Schellerer, managing director of Felbermayr Transport and powered access said: "Under the management of Stephan Kulawik, Felbermayr now wants to expand strongly in Germany with work platforms and forklift rental. We are pleased that we were able to win Kulawik for this task."
Kulawik added: "It is an exciting task to bring to Felbermayr my experience and commitment in the rental of work platforms and telescopic handlers and with the development of organisations and rental networks."

Felbermayr runs a fleet of more than 3,000 aerial work platforms across Europe, along with telehandlers and forklifts, which it offers from a dozen locations in Austria, along with ‘footholds’ in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Romania. This in addition to its substantial heavy crane and heavy haulage operations.
