Storm takes tower crane

A tower crane went over in Malmo, Sweden on Saturday as high winds from Storm Malik hit the city.

Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident and damage was limited to office containers and the road surface. The crane, on the other hand, which is from the Lambertsson fleet, was totally destroyed.

The crane was being used by contractor Nimab Entreprenad, its chief executive Martin Andersson issued a statement to the press which said: “This was a worrying incident, and I do not even want to think about what could have happened if the containers had been full of people. We do not yet know why the crane blew over, but we are investigating. Lambertsson, from whom we rent the crane, is also investigating. And we ourselves have had people on site who have so far not seen anything that might provide clues to what happened. For example, neither the ground nor the foundation has given way. We are worried about how that could happen at all. This is not uncommon for cranes to blow over like this.”

We will update if and when we learn more.
