One man died and another was seriously injured when an aerial lift failed in Poland last week.

The platform on the lift - an 18 metre Bumar P-183 over centre articulated machine with 300kg platform capacity - dropped suddenly when the lower boom lift cylinder separated with the rod pulling out of the barrel. The injured man was thrown clear while it seems the man who died dropped to the ground with the platform according to the local fire and emergency services. He was declared dead at the scene, while the other remains in hospital.

On the surface this looks like a case of an old machine and poor maintenance.
