Three more LG 1750s for Transbiaga

Spanish crane rental company Transbiaga has taken delivery of three new 750 tonne Liebherr LG 1750 lattice boom truck cranes.

All three went directly to work on the Gecama wind farm, the country’s largest wind energy installation, with 67 wind turbines, all of which have hub heights of 120 metres. The three cranes join a fourth supplied by Grúas Ibarrondo.
The €64 million 312MW project is being built by Elecnor for Enlight Renewable Energy on a 4,000 Hectare/10,000 acre site near the city of Cuenca to the south east of Madrid. The turbines have been manufactured by Nordex and feature concrete tower components weighing up to 255 tonnes, while the nacelle including the generator, weighs 140 tonnes and the 74 metre long rotor blades 21 tonnes.

Transbiaga chief executive Jon Usabiaga said: "In addition to our three new LG 1750s, there is also an LG 1750 from Grúas Ibarrondo, our partner in this wind project. In addition to its good operability, we also chose this crane model because of its high load capacity and mobility, factors that meet the needs and requirements of a wind farm. We bought the new equipment with the even stronger SX boom system. This means we are also well positioned for the future generation of wind turbines. The cranes are configured with 165 metre main booms and 12 metre F-jib."

The new cranes join five other LG 1750s in the Transbiaga fleet, which are widely used on wind farm construction. The company also has eight 600 tonne Liebherr LR 1600/2W narrow track crawler cranes.

"The LG 1750 is indispensable to carry out this type of project in the most efficient way and with the highest possible quality. They are particularly well suited to work in wind farms, as they can travel independently on the paths between each turbine and have a narrower width than a crawler crane," said Usabiaga.

"We are proud that such renowned customers as Nordex trust us to carry out this type of wind project. This means that we are among the benchmarks in the industry worldwide, both in terms of the capacity of our fleet and our work teams, and in terms of maintaining high safety and quality standards."

Transbiaga purchased its first cranes just over 25 years ago and specialises in the wind market. It has operations in Spain, Sweden, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Colombia, with around 500 employees and runs a fleet of cranes from 100 to 1,200 tonnes and has a fleet of Bronto truck mounted lifts from 70 to 101 metres.
