BES acquires Notus Heavy Lift

Notus Heavy Lift Solutions, the UK based heavy lift planning, engineering and project management company has been acquired by British Engineering Services, the testing, inspection and certification group.

Notus is based in Liverpool, with an engineering office in Sittingbourne, Kent, with other offices at the Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear power plants, in Somerset and Ipswich, as well as a base in London. The company also retains a New York office. Notus was set up between 2014 and 2015 by founders James Mohammed and Wesley Walberg both of whom had lift management and engineering experience, having started out with UK crane rental companies, Walberg as a hire controller with Ainscough and Mohammed as an AP for Hewden. Total assets according to the latest filings, were £1.1 million with a net worth of £555,000. No details of the transaction have been disclosed. Following the acquisition two weeks ago, Walberg has decided to leave, while Mohammed stays on as managing director.

This is the seventh acquisition for British Engineering Services since 2019. The company was founded in 2015 as a result of a ‘carve out’ of the Engineering Inspection & Consultancy division of insurance group RSA. Its predecessors include some of the original engineering inspection services, National Vulcan and British Engine, with roots that can be traced back to 1859. Today the ownership runs thought a maze of different companies but is ultimately owned by a number of funds along with the senior company directors.

Notus managing director James Mohammed said: “This is really great news for everyone involved, with Notus Heavy Lift Solutions, it gives us additional growth opportunities and allows us to focus on continuing to build a strong future for our team and our customers. We’re really looking forward to being a part of the British Engineering Services Group and supporting their ongoing growth over the coming months and years.”

British Engineering Services’ managing director for Testing and UK RTI Dave Vaughan added: “This is another great acquisition for the British Engineering Services Group. We’ve talked a lot about our growth plans over recent years and it’s important to us that we’re expanding our business in the right areas and with the right people. Notus is another brilliant company, and their specialist services will continue to set us aside from others in our industry. We’re absolutely delighted to have them on board. We’d also like to wish Wesley Walberg, who previously worked alongside James, playing a huge role in the company’s success to date, the very best for his future.”
