Liebherr duo for Dover

The port of Dover in the UK has taken two new Liebherr mobile harbour cranes - an 84 tonne LHM 280 and 104 tonne LHM 550.
The two cranes have gone to work at the port’s Multi-purpose terminal to handle all types of cargo, from steel plate to Caribbean fruit. They are the first Liebherr harbour mobiles in the UK to run on HVO renewable diesel.

The LHM 550 has a maximum outreach of 54 metres, while the LHM 280 reaches out to 40 metres, allowing them to handle steel, breakbulk, containers, palletised fruit and all manner of other loads. Drive is fully hydrostatic drive with closed loop hydraulic circuits for fast reaction times and rapid, precise operation. The two cranes have the ability to work in wind speeds of up to a Force 9 severe gale, meaning vessels can be unloaded all year round, in nearly all weather conditions.

Karen Hayes, commercial and divisional manager for Port of Dover Cargo said: “Since our new terminal in the Western Docks opened just over a year and a half ago, our business has flourished. We have continued to adapt to the latest technologies and techniques, enabling the team to process every range of cargo in the industry and expand our customer base even further.”
"The team at Dover is particularly pleased that the cranes are running on HVO, as this supports the Port’s drive towards achieving its recently announced industry leading decarbonisation targets."
