Sweden’s first electric reachstacker

The Port of Helsingborg has ordered one of the first Kalmar electric reachstackers, with an option for two more. The order includes comprehensive training for maintenance technicians and equipment operators, with delivery scheduled in the second half.

The new reachstacker will be the first machine of its kind to be delivered to a customer in Sweden. It will have a wheelbase of 6.5 metres, a stacking capability up to five high, a maximum lifting capacity of 45, 32 and 16 tonnes in the first, second and third rows respectively. Power comes from a 587kWh battery pack. The new machine will join a fleet that already features three Kalmar Eco Reachstackers.

Kalmar’s all electric reachstacker

The Port of Helsingborg handles approximately 275,000 TEU via sea and about 25,000 TEU via rail annually. To address increasing demand for both container volumes and logistics services in southern Sweden, the port will build a new container terminal further south in Helsingborg. The project is due for completion in 2028.

The port’s chief executive Bart Steijaert said: “We will sustainably develop the new container terminal with automation, electrification and efficient land use. Investing in the electric reach stackers is an important step in our journey.”
Kalmar Sweden sales representative Eric Wass added: “With the Kalmar Electric Reachstacker terminal operators no longer need to sacrifice performance and productivity in order to reduce their carbon emissions. We are very proud to deliver Sweden’s first ever 100 percent electric reachstacker and would like to congratulate the Port of Helsingborg on leading the way for the industry in Sweden.”
