Lineman fatality

A man working for a cable company died yesterday, when his platform contacted overhead power lines in McLean, Virginia, part of greater Washington DC.

The man working for Cox Communication and elevated to around four to six metres in a truck mounted utility platform/bucket truck when he contacted the live overhead power lines. The platform caught fire and spread to the trees and his truck, this prevented emergency services from intervening fast enough to save him. He was declared dead at the scene.

The power was eventual shut down and fire extinguished, but it was too late. In the meantime, the Georgetown Pike was closed and around 3,00 or more Dominion Energy /Virginia Power customers lost power.

We will update as and when we learn more.
