Upwards and onwards

“With consolidation comes fragmentation” - a wise man once said, an example of this is a new company on the UK powered access market, Upward Powered Access.

The new company was founded by Paul Johnson after the company, he worked for, Higher Platforms, was acquired by the Lavendon Group. Johnson parted with his old company on good terms, but having worked for large companies before and been ‘acquired’ six times in his 25 plus years in the equipment rental industry, he decided that this was an opportunity to do something different. .

The natural progression therefore was to start his own company, anyone who has gone into business for themselves will appreciate how tough such a decision can be. Once taken all manner of questions need sorting, from depot location right down to the finer details of marketing and establishing a customer base, all of which can lay heavy on one person, never mind the problem of arranging finance in these difficult times.

In spite of the challenges Johnson persevered and his new company, opened for business last week in Kingston Bagpuize, near Oxford. The initial fleet is largely made up of Genie scissor lifts and Niftylift booms.

He says: “From humble beginnings I am looking forward to growing this business to be a reasonable sized regional player in the industry. I would like to thank both Genie and Niftylift for their help and support in getting this business started, as this company grows I hope I will be able to repay their belief in me with more orders in the very near future.”
