NY crane inspector gets 2 to 6

New York City’s former chief cranes inspector pleaded guilty and took a two-to-six-year prison plea yesterday.

The disgraced Department of Buildings inspector James Delayo, 61, admitting that he repeatedly sold answers to the crane operator licensing test, and the licenses themselves, for around $500 each.

Delayo also pleaded guilty to pocketing bribes, although prosecutors were only able to prove that he received around $10,000 over a seven year period, for clearing cranes through a regular inspection.

He was accused of taking such bribes from the owner of a Long Island-based crane company, Nu-Way Crane Service. The company's owner, Michael Sackaris, has been charged with bribery as has one of his crane operators, Michael Pascalli, who is said to paid Delayo to sign off on an operators exam that he never took.
