Sany claims world title

Sany claims to have built the world’s strongest mobile crane, the 3,600 tonne SCC86000TM crawler crane, designed at its development centre in Kunshan, Jiangsu province.

The crane will be used in the construction of nuclear power projects in China, according to Sany's president, Xiang Wenbo.

We have no photographs of the machine yet which is said to have rolled off of the production line yesterday. More if and when we receive it.

Vertikal Comment

If it is true that Sany has already completed this crane, which we have to assume it is, it is a big jump up from the 1,600 tonne model the company announced last year. And a massive leap from the 1,000 tonne crane it showed in 2008. That unit has been seen on sites in China, but it has not been without its problems- including some serious issues.

Sany has made huge strides with its crawler crane line, but it is reaching the rarefied air with such big models. Few companies have managed to make a real go of such big cranes and few engineers have any practical experience of building a crane this big.

The engineering talent and experience required cannot be fast tracked without taking huge risks which is likely to put off most potential buyers for some years to come.

We assume of course that the first machine at least has already been sold to a local company?
