More new cranes for Baldwins

Baldwins Crane Hire of the UK has purchased six more cranes as part of its strategic fleet investment programme.

The latest units include two 120 tonne four axle Liebherr LTM1120-4.1s with 66 metre main booms, VarioBase outrigger set up and VarioBallast adjustable counterweight. They join the company’s second 450 tonne Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 delivered at the end of last year. The company has also taken four, five axle Grove All Terrains - two 120 tonne GMK 5120L and two 250 tonne GMK 5250XL.
The GMK5120L features a seven section 66 metre main boom, topped by a 9.4 to 16 metres bi-fold swingaway extension with up to 40 degrees of offset for a maximum onboard tip height of 85 metres. An 8.1 metre insert installed between boom nose and swingaway takes that to 93 metres.

The five axle GMK5250XL-1 boasts a 78.5 metre eight section main boom plus a 17.8 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended to 33.8 metres with additional inserts, offering a maximum tip height of 109 metres. With the maximum 80 tonnes of counterweight the crane can handle 9.9 tonnes on the fully extended main boom at a radius of up to 22 metres.

Project director Liam McLoughlin said: “The company directors have seen a significant increase in the requirement to supply mobile cranes, project management and engineering support to renewable projects in the power generation and storage market. Our project teams are engaged at the front end of these projects, providing technical information that is critical to the successful delivery of projects throughout the UK."

“The ability to select from our owner operated and diverse fleet is critical to many project risk registers, with alignment of small and heavy cranes ranging in capacity from 40t to 1000t managed and supplied from a central project function."

“Aside from this market, the company continues to support infrastructure projects and the new efficient crane models from Liebherr and Grove help meet our sustainable targets, those of our clients and the projects we are involved with.”
