The JLG LiftPod

JLG Australia has formally launched the LiftPod a lightweight one man portable lift that was shown as a prototype at this years HRIA event in May.

The company says that it fills the gap between ladders and larger aerial work platforms for one person lift applications. It provides a working height of 4.4 metres with a 150kg platform capacity and overall weight of just 70kg.

The steel base plate is fitted with non-marking polyurethane wheels with a castor mechanism that retracts automatically when the LiftPod is in use. Power comes from both mains electric and a self-contained battery power pack.

The first unit, the LiftPod Model FS80 features a 600mm x 500mm work platform and includes a work tray for tools and materials. It also features a low platform entry height, single hand interlocked controller and proportional lift and descent.

The LiftPod is made up from three main components, the base, the mast and the platform each of which weighs no more than 29kg. It can be quickly disassembled without tools to allow it to be loaded into a van or carried upstairs. JLG says that it can be re-assembled by one person in less than a minute.

The LiftPod is being championed by Geoff Campbell who many years ago headed JLG Europe, he is now managing director of JLG Prolift which manufactures the product for JLG Australia.

Vertikal Comment

This looks like an interesting alternative for some applications, in place of podium steps of step ladders. Its success will depend on the price and how rugged and practical it is in a real life applications.
