A man died earlier this month in Aukland, New Zealand after falling from a scissor lift while moving aluminium extrusions at the SD Aluminium extrusions facility in the suburb of Albany on the northern edge of the city.
He was apparently moving extrusions at the time and simply fell from the platform, sustaining serious head injuries. He never regained consciousness,
The man, Jun Jiang, 37, a Chinese national, moved to New Zealand in 2022 on a work visa organised by the company. The incident occurred on December 28th, but he remained in a coma until the hospital and family agreed to switch off the life support last Tuesday. He leaves behind a wife and eight year old daughter.
WorkSafe has instigated an investigation into the incident. SD Aluminium has said that the matter is being investigated, and, as such, it is not appropriate for it to respond to any questions about the incident while it is still live.
