Fatal crushing incident

A man died on Friday while working from the platform of an aerial lift in Geneva, Illinois, to the east of Chicago.

Oddly there were two men in the platform at the time, one of whom was rescued unharmed by the fire service using a ladder platform. The other, Donald Tentler, 47, of sign company Identity Services is reported to have died from compression injuries causing asphyxia. It seems he was crushed between the platform and the upper structure of the tower.

The two men were rescued by the local fire service

The men were working on the restoration of the bell tower at the Geneva Commons shopping centre, attaching new signs to the four sides of the tower above the bells, when the incident occurred. The platform involved is reportedly a bucket truck. But given that this is owned and operated by a sign company, it is more likely to be a boom truck with platform attachment.

It's odd because the other unharmed man apparently did nothing or was unable to do anything to help the man who was crushed.
