Kalmar, Sweden is where Volvo AB built an auto assembly plant for team construction of Volvo Autos. Pehr Gyllenhammar was President at that time and wrote a book entitled “People At Work” telling about the strategies employed to convert the car assembly method from assembly line to team assembly and full accountability. I used some of their strategy concepts mixed with another book “The Mind oof the Strategist” by Kenichi Ohmae, managing director MacKenzie & Associates, Tokyo for management and marketing consulting projects I did in the 1970s. As J-I-T concepts were threaded into the GM plant with 300 + delivery stations at Hamtramck, Michigan it would be interesting to study how concepts of the 1970s were shuffled into that planning the GM facility. I believe it was to build Buick Autos. Now, fast-forward thinking to this century and the second decade for manufacturing of C&A equipment, intermodal freight and ports for intermodal freight handling. This world turns at warp speed!

Paivi’s appointment to this job sounds like a good boost to increase quality for the elements of Human Resources at Cargotech. Have any books or articles been written about sustainability as a executive duty in the C & A industry? As an independent small business I view sustainability as multi-faceted attention to issues that keep the business profitable, alive and growing. It keeps me on my toes looking at business trends in the region we are in...a never-ending challenge.
