Two men died while six others were injured when a large tower crane came down onto site huts/offices on a construction site for a new waste to power generation plant in the Prawet district of Bangkok yesterday.
The 12 tonne capacity crane also struck and overturned a cement mixer truck.
The cause of the overturn seems to be clear cut in that the foundation is clearly inadequate, although that may have been exasperated by an error in the amount of counterweight installed or a gross overload.
The men who died have been named as Somnuek Daochan, 53 a crane controller, and foreman Sunan Sutthiwilai, 47.
The new plant is one of several being built by New Sky Energy (Bangkok) which was, we understand also service as the main contractor.
Tower403
looks like a tower crane base failure in while the crane was in the process of erecting another tower crane. Hopefully the engineer/owner was one of the individuals that paid the ultimate price.
