Harness saves life

A tower crane erector is lucky to be alive today after he fell from the counter jib 40 metres up in Melbourne, Australia.

The man was working on the site of a shopping centre in Springvale when a counterweight segment is reported to have fallen off the crane causing a catapult reaction that threw him off.

He was left dangling from the lanyard in his harness while others came quickly to his rescue a WorkSafe spokeswoman said that it was investigating the incident, which occurred last Friday evening.

They added "A rigger fell from the machine deck of a tower crane during the erection of the crane, he was held by his harness but wasn't hurt."

Thank Goodness, a positive ending for what could have been much worse.
