Ramirent sole supplier for mine

Ramirent Sweden has been selected as the sole supplier of rental equipment for the expansion of the Garpenberg Zinc mine near Hedemora, Sweden and will open a depot on site stocked with rental equipment and a range of spare parts.

The deal with mining and metals company Boliden, is worth around SEK70 million (€7.9 million) over the next three years. Ramirent will supply heavy equipment, lifts and other equipment and accessories to all subcontractors operating at the site for the duration of the project. It will also provide office, changing room, washroom and canteen modules for project workforce.

Peter Dahlsten, senior vice president of Ramirent Sweden said: “We are very happy to be working with Boliden once again. As a total supplier in this significant mining project, we will be able to benefit from our experience gained in the Aitik mine expansion project two years ago.”

The deposits at Garpenberg were first worked as far back as the 13th century, making it Sweden's oldest mine that is still operational. Boliden acquired it in 1957 and exploration work has since resulted in a substantial increase in its ore reserves. The complex ore that contains copper, lead, gold and silver as well as Zinc.

The expansion will increase ore production at Garpenberg from the current level of 1.4 million tonnes to 2.5 million tonnes a year. Full production capacity will be reached by the end of 2015.
