Bracht takes a Liebherr LG1750

German crane company Franz Bracht has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LG1750 lattice truck crane.

The crane, which is now the largest lattice boom crane in the Bracht Fleet, was collected from Liebherr’s Ehingen plant by managing partner Dirk Bracht.
Bracht ordered the crane for wind turbine work and included a full range of equipment, including the new SL12D2FB boom system, which enables the LG 1750 to erect the latest wind power systems at tower heights from 140 to 150 metres.

Bracht's LG1750 'ready to roll' with the superstructure aboard a new Goldhofer 92 tonne trailer

The design of the new system is based on the proven SL9D2FB boom - a main boom arrangement with fixed jib and derrick mast. With three stronger 12 metre lattice sections - with a width of 3.5 metres instead of three metres – at the base of the main boom, and the lengthening of the fixed jib.

As a result both the load capacity and the height under hook have been increased. The LG 1750 can now achieve loads of 141 tonnes at hook heights of 143 metres, and 97 tonnes at 160 metres.

The new crane went straight to work in Gelsenkirchen, moving wire rope coils weighing up to 370 tonnes for an offshore vessel at a radius of 20 metres. The LG 1750 was set up with a 42 metre main boom, 31.5 metre derrick mast, 220 tonnes of superstructure ballast, and 280 tonnes of suspended ballast.

Bracht's new Liebherr LG1750 on its first job, loading wire rope coils weighing up to 370 tonnes

Bracht said: “As well as its enormous capacity, the LG 1750 is also extremely flexible. It can go into action rapidly and economically, because the basic unit can travel by itself on public roads. Fewer transport vehicles are needed in comparison with a crawler crane, and set-up time is shorter too. It’s the perfect machine for heavy loads and short-time operations – set up, one lift, take down and off again. Even with a crane as big as this, it’s often that simple.”

The Bracht group employs 500 and runs a fleet of 200 cranes, 130 work platforms and numerous transport vehicles. The crane fleet ranges from seven tonnes to 1,200 tonnes, of which 14 are lattice crawler cranes.
