Emergency response crane

Manitowoc Crane Care, along with local crane service company Möhle Crane Service, have recently modified a 10 year old, 50 tonne Grove GMK3050 All Terrain crane into an emergency response vehicle for a local fire department in Kassel, Germany.

The transformation took around 12 weeks to complete with modifications including lights on the outriggers and the rear of the crane to help set up quickly and safely in the dark, a universal NATO socket typically used on military vehicles, a storage box for ropes, chains and shackles and an electric motor with hydraulic connections allowing the crane to operate from different external power sources or an emergency generator. It is currently the only emergency response vehicle of its kind in central Germany.

Reinhard Kotzan, sales manager at Grove’s dealer KranAgentur Werner, said: “The Grove GMK3050 is ideal for emergency work as it is quick to set up, compact and powerful. It has excellent load charts and an impressive boom, which makes it suitable for a huge variety of jobs. Modifications are now complete and the crane is an excellent addition to the fire department's emergency services.”
