Truck hits work platform

A large articulated truck struck the platform of an aerial lift on Interstate 69 to the north of Fort Wayne, Indiana yesterday, bouncing one of the men out of the platform, and causing serious injuries.

The two men, Brandon Morris and Ted Cook were working on the underside of a bridge that carries Route 325 over the interstate, when the truck hit the bucket, the driver Adam Sparks, said that he did not see the platform until he hit it.

Morris was bounced out of the platform, falling around four metres or so to the ground, while Cook managed to remain in the basket. Both were taken to hospital with critical injuries. They were working for Pioneer Associates at the time. The work was clearly marked as a construction zone and Sparks claims to have slowed down as he entered it.

The police report says that the investigation is continuing and that it had not charged Sparks with anything at this point.
