Who needs traffic control?

Spotted today in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, UK, two men using a van mounted lift to take down Christmas decorations with no consideration of normal safety precautions.

Taking down the Christmas lights in Sawbridgeworth

The two, one assumes employed directory or indirectly by the local authority, had rented in the self-drive aerial lift, a great improvement over ladders etc...

Cars continued to drive under the overhanging boom

But.....they made no attempt to protect the lift against traffic and the man in the platform is clearly not wearing a harness in-spite of being at a heightened level of risk from working in the street. One assumes that this model does not require stabilisers and is therefore being correctly used in terms of stability - however we are not sure about that which makes it even worse.

The man in the platform did not bother with a harness

In the words of our correspondent “Taken today in Sawbridgeworth council contractors using a cherry picker with no harness, no traffic management and no pedestrian management, I can't believe the council would allow this. I'd love to see the method statement!”

A definite one for our Death Wish series.
