The TH255C is powered by a 2.9 litre 55kW engine with variable-speed with a hydraulically driven, variable-speed reversing fan. The engine bay has been redesigned to house the new engine including a new exhaust mounting system and a low-profile hood that improves visibility to the right of the machine.
Hydrostatic transmission, four-wheel-drive and three-mode steering system allow precise placement of loads and an electronic throttle pedal provides instant engine response.
New axles have larger final-reduction hubs and larger wheel assemblies for durability and reliability. Other features include a redesigned electrical harness and roof-mounted air-conditioning system. In the cab there is a new instrument cluster and dash panel including a single, electro-hydraulic joystick.

Cat says that the overall cost of ownership for the TH255C is reduced by easy serviceability with all routine service points accessible from ground level and daily maintenance limited to fluid-level checks and a walk-around inspection.
