New cladding system
UK based access rental company United Powered Access (UPA) has developed a new sheet material trestle system for its fleet of Skyjack big deck scissor lifts.
Designed specifically for Skyjack’s 47ft 88/41 and 56ft SJ9250 scissor lifts which comply with the latest 2011 EU directives, the United Trestle System comprises of two steel trestles fixed to the scissor lift’s roll-out extension platforms which provide a safe and convenient method to support cladding sheets and other materials.
The retrofit system, approved by Skyjack and CE marked by PAC (Powered Access Certification) weighs just 58kg (27kg per trestle) and takes 15 minutes to install once the machine has been modified for adaption. Measuring 1.2 metres wide the trestles can be positioned from 1.4 metres up to four metres apart depending on how far the roll-out platforms are extended. The height of the trestles are also adjustable in four inch intervals from the top of the guardrails up to 1.8 metres above the platform. The system can also be adapted to support sprinkler returns, six inch mains pipes and air conditioning duct systems.

UPA director Greg Miller said: “Development of the system took place in 2013 in readiness for the launch of United Powered Access and is available to all of our customers. Working in conjunction with Skyjack and PAC we have developed a low tech system which eliminates the need for cladders to rest the sheets on the scissor lift’s hand rails. The benefit of our system is that a telehandler is able to place materials directly onto the trestles without damaging the handrails and that the sheets are positioned ready to be offered to the building with ease.”
