Boom tips in Oklahoma

A 60ft telescopic boom lift overturned in Norman, Oklahoma, yesterday injuring the occupant.

The lift a Genie S-60 owned by United Rentals, was working over the side with boom fully extended and lowered almost to its full 15.5 metres outreach, when it went over.

The lift overturned and struck the wall

There is no indication in the photos that we have been sent of what caused this unusual incident, with no apparent machine failure it can only be due to a platform overload – possibly a load of roof tiles? It looks as the platform struck the wall as the machine went over stopping its further descent.

The ground looks fine and tyres reasonably firm

We understand that the lift was being used by CMR Construction and Roofing to carry our repairs and maintenance on the roof of the McFarlin United Methodist Church and that the injured man is recovering.
