As already reported See Palfinger unveils 48m the new machine is the first new model in the company’s planned renewal programme for its Jumbo series of larger truck mounts, which currently includes the WT450, WT530, WT610 and WT700 the design of which date back to the start of the new millennium.

Having sold over 350 units in that time, the series is clearly important in terms of revenues, and with principle competitors Ruthmann and Bronto having introduced several new products in this sector, Palfinger has the opportunity and the challenge to top go even further.

The new P480NX will be mounted on a two axle 18 tonne chassis, one of the highest machines available on an 18 tonner, although it has also been designed for a 26 tonne 6x2 MAN chassis allowing an extra three tonnes of counterweight, to provide a greater outreach through 360 degrees. The two axle P480NX on show weighed 17.4 tonnes including two operator and full fuel tank. This leaves plenty of capacity for extra cribbing etc all of which can be stored on the units' underdeck storage chests.

A key feature on the new lift is its new ‘X-Jib’ a long two section jib with short secondary jib, taking the outreach to 31 metres, with the jib providing between 17 and 18.25 metres of that outreach. Articulation is 240 degrees, and its design allows a platform rotation of 400 degrees –(2x200 degrees) It also allows up 13.5 metres of below ground reach, but with reduced platform capacity of 100kg, compared to the maximum capacity of 600kg.
